The University Motel and Suites is Starkville's family-owned and continuously run motel since the 1950's. As such, it has a rich history in the great town of Starkville, MS. Founder Vernon Chesteen began the motel by converting 1900's era San Francisco Cable Cars to rooms that travelers could rent! He purchased the cable cars at auction and lined them up end to end on the very land that University Motel now stands on! As he was able, Mr. Chesteen scrapped the cable cars to build the wings of the Motel.
